The so called quotes given in this article in my name are not true and or taken out of context for the purpose of sensationalism. The individual in question and I will not reveal his name in order to protect him, was found actual help through my efforts and that of a high level police officer.
Is it my responsibility to help every mentally ill person who comes along, no it is not, I am not a psychologist or a mental health professional of any sort, nor do I claim to be.
However I will not stand to be misquoted about a person that I was at the forefront in helping. If you want to attack anyone attack a city that has ignored and marginalized the homeless and mentally ill for far too long, if the city and Mayor Nutter were serious and you were serious about helping the homeless and mentally ill you would be advocating as I have been from the get go for permanent sustainable housing. Through the acquisition of the 40, 000 abandoned building around the city to be refinished and dedicated to those who do not have homes. There is no excuse for there to be one homeless person in this city, mentally ill or otherwise.
I would take this opportunity to call on Mayor Nutter and other city and state officials to make this dream a reality for the homeless of this city. So that we can end homelessness in this city and eventually every city in America, it is much easier to get the mentally ill services when they are in a permanent location, and not a shelter where they can only stay a limited amount of time and are kicked right back out on to the streets.
We have asked the city and the “outreach people” for help in dealing with the mentally ill and have been rebuffed. We have even called for the so called emergency mental health vans to come and deal with severely mentally ill persons who were a danger to themselves and others as was “The General” and were laughed at in response to those request, when the police where asked for help we were told that the men should take care of it. In clear disregard for public safety or the constitution.
